On the morning of July 9, 2025, CUFE Business School successfully held the 22nd Session of 2025 Excellent Academic Forum in Conference Room 615 of the Main Teaching Building at the Xueyuan South Road Campus. Associate Professor Pan Zheyao from Macquarie University was invited as the keynote speaker. Teachers, doctoral students, and master’s students of CUFE Business School participated in the event.
The lecture was hosted by Associate Professor Zhang Guangli, Director of the Financial Management Department of CUFE Business School. Before the lecture, Professor Zhang briefly introduced Associate Professor Pan’s academic background. Dr. Pan’s main research areas include corporate finance (capital structure, corporate innovation, supply chains), financial intermediation (credit rating agencies, analysts, financial advisors), and financial regulation. His research findings have been published in international authoritative journals such as Review of Financial Studies, Research Policy, Journal of Corporate Finance, Financial Management, Journal of Financial Markets, and Journal of Banking and Finance.

The theme of Associate Professor Pan Zheyao’s lecture was "An Introduction of Bunching Estimation and Its Applications in Finance". Centering on the "bunching estimation" method, the lecture first gave a brief introduction to the basic concept, theoretical foundation of bunching estimation, and its application value in economic research. Then, taking "the shadow cost of collateral" as a case study, the lecture deeply demonstrated the specific application of bunching estimation in empirical research. Professor Pan shared the comments from reviewers and editors received during the research process, and presented the research team’s responses to these comments and ideas for improvement, helping the audience better understand the process of academic writing and manuscript submission. Finally, the lecture introduced the latest developments in this field, including research trends of fuzzy bunching and two-dimensional bunching, providing reference directions for future research.
After the lecture, teachers and students present conducted lively discussions around the theme shared by Associate Professor Pan Zheyao, further deepening the exchange between academia and practice.
